Greg Dresser has a broad-based practice, focusing on complex civil litigation. Mr. Dresser was born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1963. He received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 and his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1988. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Dresser associated with Morrison & Foerster in 1988. Mr. Dresser was elected to the partnership in 1996 and is resident in the San Francisco office.

Mr. Dresser is a member of Morrison & Foerster LLP’s Financial Services Litigation Practice Group and has represented financial institutions in actions alleging violations of the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and California’s Unfair Competition Law. Mr. Dresser also has experience representing financial institutions in actions asserting claims for breach of contract, lender liability, fraud, and false advertising.

Mr. Dresser has also represented clients in a variety of real estate disputes, including the representation of lenders in judicial foreclosure actions and landlords and tenants in commercial lease disputes.

In addition, Mr. Dresser has defended clients in a variety of other substantive areas, including actions alleging patent infringement, theft of trade secrets, false advertising under the Lanham Act, and breach of contract.

Throughout his career at Morrison & Foerster LLP, Mr. Dresser has had an active pro bono practice, including the representation of individuals who were the victims of fraudulent real estate transactions, people with HIV seeking government benefits, and a class of children who interact with Utah’s child welfare system. Mr. Dresser received an Outstanding Pro Bono Lawyer award from the Bar Association of San Francisco in 1989. He was a member of the Contra Costa Legal Services Foundation Board of Trustees from 1995 to 1996 and the AIDS Legal Referral Panel Board of Directors from 1997 to 1998.

Mr. Dresser was listed as one of Northern California’s "Super Lawyers" in Business Litigation in 2004 by Super Lawyer Magazine .

Mr. Dresser represented financial institutions in the following reported cases.

  • Wallace v. Capital One Bank , 168 F. Supp. 2d 526 (D. Md. 2001) (motion to dismiss FDCPA action granted with prejudice).
  • Shorty v. Capital One Bank , 90 F. Supp. 2d 1330 (D. N.M. 2000) (same).

Mr. Dresser represented a secured lender in a dispute regarding lien priority in the following reported case

  • Lennar Northeast Partners v. Buice , 49 Cal. App. 4th 1576 (1996) (altering priority of a portion of lien negotiated without consent of junior lienholder).

Mr. Dresser participated in the successful defense of a client accused of patent infringement in the following reported case.

  • Fantasy Sports Props., Inc. v. SportsLine.com, Inc. , 287 F. 3d 1108 (Fed. Cir. 2002) (affirming summary judgment prior to claim construction).

Mr. Dresser represented pro bono clients in the following reported cases.

  • David C. v. Leavitt , 242 F. 3d 1206 (10th Cir. 2001) (affirming district court’s authority to modify settlement agreement reforming Utah’s child welfare system as a result of defendants’ repeated violations thereof).
  • Estate of Tasunke Witko (a/k/a Crazy Horse) v. Hornell Brewing Co. , 156 F. Supp. 2d 1092 (D. N.D. 2001) (dispute regarding use of the name of the Lakota Sioux leader, Crazy Horse, on a malt liquor product; denying motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction).
