Richard Hung is a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office, where his practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and counseling.

Mr. Hung has litigated a wide variety of technology matters since joining Morrison & Foerster in 2000. He has appeared and argued on behalf of clients in both state and federal courts. His patent matters have involved biometric authentication, digital rights management, interactive television, internet protocols, kyphoplasty, online commerce, personal computer hardware, programmable logic devices, public key encryption, and spam prevention. A registered patent attorney, Mr. Hung frequently advises clients on strategic patent issues. Mr. Hung also has been involved in trade secrets litigation in California state court and in commercial arbitration before the American Arbitration Association. Companies that he has represented include Altera, Apple Computer, BEA Systems, Fujitsu, Kyphon, Novell, SAFLINK, and Yahoo!.

Mr. Hung earned dual bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and economics from Stanford University in 1995 and his law degree from Columbia Law School in 1998. In law school, he was a James Kent Scholar, a moot court editor and judge, and a recipient of the Carroll G. Harper Prize for excellence in intellectual property. Before joining the firm, Mr. Hung clerked for the Honorable Paul Michel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Hung is a member of the California bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
