Andrew N. Spivak is an associate in the Northern Virginia office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, specializing in domestic and international trademark prosecution, as well as opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, federal trademark litigation, trademark licensing, domain name disputes and copyright matters.

Mr. Spivak began his career as a Trademark Examining Attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he specialized in examining computer goods and services applications and was one of the first Examiners selected to review domain name trademark applications. During the course of his examination of thousands of trademark applications, Mr. Spivak also drafted several trademark appeal briefs on behalf of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Spivak was also a trademark associate with the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg.

Mr. Spivak counsels a wide array of clients, ranging from major corporations to start-up companies to sole proprietorships to non-profit organizations. His extensive experience crosses through a broad variety of business industries including entertainment, telecommunications, transportation, technology, education and medicine. While in private practice, Mr. Spivak has also acted as in-house counsel for a major Reston, Virginia corporation in its intellectual property law division and a major Silver Spring, Maryland corporation in its entertainment and education contracts division.

Mr. Spivak received his B.A. from the University of Rochester in 1995 and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1998. He is currently licensed to practice law in the states of Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. He has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
