Laurie A. Hand is an Of Counsel in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster LLP. Ms. Hand’s practice focuses on complex business litigation on behalf of mature companies and emerging businesses, including technology companies and individuals, including financial institutions, mutual fund companies, broker-dealers, and their officers and directors.
Ms. Hand advises clients on disputes relating to securities issues (including class actions), commercial contracts, covenants not to compete, antitrust and business torts, including claims such as civil conspiracy, fraud, unfair competition, tortious interference, breach of fiduciary duty, and misappropriation of trade secrets. Ms. Hand has experience defending a financial institution in a securities fraud case arising from alleged violations of GAAP and representing a mutual fund company in civil and regulatory proceedings in allegations related to marketing timing and late trading. Ms. Hand has first chair experience in jury and bench trials before state and federal courts, and in arbitration proceedings before the NASD and the American Arbitration Association. Ms. Hand regularly represents clients in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, but has extensive experience representing clients in many other forums.
Ms. Hand is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A. 1988) and George Mason University School of Law (J.D. 1991), where she was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court Board. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Ms. Hand was associated with McGuire Woods in its commercial litigation section.
Ms. Hand is a member of the bars of Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. She is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States; the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the District of Columbia; the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia; and the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland, as well as the state courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
