Mr. Imwalle is an associate in the Land Use and Environmental Law Practice Group in the firm’s San Francisco office. His practice focuses on all aspects of the land development process, including land use entitlements, compliance issues, and litigation. Mr. Imwalle advises clients on the development of commercial, residential and mixed-use projects throughout California, and in the land use aspects of financing real estate acquisitions and developments, including zoning, land use, permitting, and environmental matters. He frequently assists clients with preparing environmental review documents required under the California Environmental Quality Act, as well as defends clients’ environmental review documents in both administrative and judicial proceedings.

In addition to his land use practice, Mr. Imwalle has an active environmental counseling and litigation practice. In particular, he has experience with CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Water Act and California’s Proposition 65. Mr. Imwalle also provides environmental counseling and support for corporate and real estate transactions, including coordinating environmental due diligence assessments, retaining and supervising technical experts, advising clients on deal-related liability and risk allocation issues, drafting and negotiating contract language and pursuing post-closing resolution of issues identified in the course of due diligence.

Mr. Imwalle graduated with honors from Dartmouth College with a major in History. He earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law where he served as an Articles Editor for the New York University Environmental Law Journal. He also participated in the Environmental Law Clinic and aided Professor Philippe Sands in updating his treatise Principles of International Environmental Law.
