Gregory Tan is a partner in the Corporate Department of Morrison & Foerster and has been resident in the firm’s Shanghai office since 2005. He specializes in counseling multinational corporations, particularly in China, in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances and foreign direct investments. He also has deep expertise in the sale, acquisition and development of real estate and other infrastructure projects. Apart from transactional work, Mr. Tan regularly counsels Fortune 500 companies and global MNCs on a wide range of corporate advisory and regulatory matters.
Mr. Tan has spent numerous years working as international counsel to clients and is highly experienced in blending international law firm experience with local market practices to offer effective and practical solutions to legal problems. Listed as a leading lawyer by IFLR 1000 2013, Mr. Tan is recognized as having a “high level of professionalism” and is “very practical and solution-oriented.” He is also ranked as a key individual for Corporate M&A (China & Asia Pacific) by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2013 who describes him as having attracted strong praise from his clientele as “someone who will give you useful advice and not something which is a mere textbook answer.” Mr. Tan is further recommended by Asia Pacific Legal 500 2011-2013 for Corporate/M&A as well as Real Estate work. Mr. Tan graduated from the University of Bristol in England with an LL.B., with first class honors, and started his legal career in the Supreme Court of Singapore as a justices’ law clerk, clerking principally for the Chief Justice and the court of appeal judges. He is admitted to the bars in England and Wales, the Singapore bar, and the New York bar.
