Stephen Birkett is a partner in the Hong Kong office and specializes in corporate finance and securities matters, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, public offerings, corporate restructurings, and other commercial transactions. His experience includes more than 20 years handling such matters in Hong Kong and also London.

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster in 2008, Mr. Birkett served for three years as Senior Director of Corporate Finance with the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong. Before that he was a partner and Head of Corporate Finance in a leading international firm in Hong Kong.

Mr. Birkett is a frequent speaker at conferences on Hong Kong securities legal issues and has authored chapters on the Hong Kong Takeovers Code and Listing Rules in the popular “Practitioner’s Guide” series. He has been selected as a recommended lawyer for Company and Corporate Transactions, and Mergers & Acquisitions, by Global Counsel 3000.

Mr. Birkett received an M.A. degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University and is qualified to practice in England and Hong Kong. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
