Sophie Waels is an associate in the Corporate Group of the London office of Morrison & Foerster.

Mrs. Waels advises on a wide range of matters including private financings, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions and restructurings. Mrs. Waels’s recent transactions include:

  • advising PharmaKodex Ltd, a specialty pharmaceuticals company developing improved proprietary formulations of established therapeutics, on a completion of a Series A equity financing, raising £7.1 million;
  • advising Renovo Group plc, an entity admitted to trading on the Official List, on its secondary offering raising £24.7 million;
  • advising affiliates of Paul Royalty Fund II, LP on its strategic partnering agreement with Pharming Group N.V valued at US $30 million;
  • advising Intercytex Group plc, a healthcare company using its proprietary cell therapy technology to develop innovative products to restore and regenerate skin and hair, on its successful IPO on AIM raising £15 million.

Mrs. Waels qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in September 2005. Mrs. Waels joined Morrison & Foerster in September 2005.

After obtaining a post-graduate diploma in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Paris 2, Pantheon Assas in 1999 and a L.L.M in International and European Legal Studies from the University of Durham in 2000, Mrs. Waels completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and the Legal Practice Course at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle and the College of Law in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Mrs. Waels is bilingual in French and English.
