Alan Owens is a commercial litigation partner with extensive international experience across a wide range of contentious matters.
Mr. Owens’ recent experience includes:
- Advising a Russian jet leasing company in its Moscow seated arbitration (I.CAC Rules).
- Acting for a series of major food producers from across the EU in pursuit of their claims against a diverse group of foreign defendants, the claim being subject of mediation before being decided by the Court of Appeal in England.
- Acting in a $40m outsourcing dispute, decided by way of Expert Determination.
- Advising a UK government agency in its claims against a US Software provider.
- Advising a US hedge fund as to its concurrent claims regarding bond defaults in Malaysia and the UK.
- Advising a global technology company as to litigation and regulatory risk in its revised product and software roll-out plans.
- Advising US and NI companies on claims against the European Commission concerning change of import tax tariffs for goods from Brazil and Thailand (which included a challenge to the EU by the World Trade Organisation).
Mr. Owens is a member of the Civil Justice Council, the advisory group to the Civil Procedure Rules Committee in the UK and contributing author to the key litigation texts, Blackstone’s Civil Practice (OUP) and Civil Court Service (Jordan).
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Owens was a partner in the London office of Irwin Mitchell. He received his LL.B from Birmingham University in 1994 and completed the Legal Practice Course at College of Law, Chester in 1995. Mr. Owens qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and is admitted to practice in England & Wales.
