Mr. Gowdy is a partner in the firm’s Brussels office. His practice focuses on representing parties before U.S., E.U., and international antitrust agencies, with an emphasis on merger and civil antitrust investigations. He also regularly counsels clients on antitrust and intellectual property issues relating to joint ventures, strategic alliances, license agreements, standard-setting activities, and distribution or marketing arrangements.

Mr. Gowdy has extensive experience advising clients in high-technology sectors, including computer hardware, software and storage; life sciences; Internet media and services; semiconductor products and manufacturing equipment; telecommunication equipment and services; and in other industries, such as consumer products, energy, transportation and financial services.

  • Represented Inamed Corporation before the Federal Trade Commission in its $3.2 billion merger with Allergan, Inc.
  • Represented Oracle Corporation before the Department of Justice and European Commission in its $10.3 billion tender offer for PeopleSoft.
  • Represented Hitachi, Ltd. before the Federal Trade Commission in its $2 billion acquisition of IBM’s hard disk drive business.
  • Represented Tanox, Inc. before the Federal Trade Commission in connection with Genentech’s $919 million acquisition of Tanox.
  • Represented Mercury Interactive before U.S. and E.U. antitrust agencies in its $4.5 billion merger with Hewlett-Packard.
  • Represented Del Monte before the FTC in its $580 million acquisition of Kraft’s Milk-Bone dog snack business
  • Represented amicus curiae in Texaco Inc. v. Dagher, 126 S. Ct. 1276 (2006).

Mr. Gowdy is a graduate of Duke University (B.A., 1993) and the University of Florida College of Law (J.D., with high honors, 1996), where he was Managing Editor of the Florida Law Review and became a member of The Order of the Coif. During law school, Mr. Gowdy worked at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Gowdy also previously worked for a venture firm that managed a $30 million investment fund and provided management consulting services to early-stage technology companies.
