Rony P. Gerrits is the Managing Partner of the Brussels office of Morrison & Foerster, practicing antitrust law.

Mr. Gerrits’ main area of expertise is EU antitrust law and his practice focuses on monopolization cases, cartel cases and merger filings. Mr. Gerrits has represented companies in front of the European Commission and he has also been involved in several EU Member State antitrust proceedings.

Mr. Gerrits has extensive experience dealing with antitrust/IP related issues and many of his clients are in the high-tech sector. He has for example been involved in a series of recent investigations regarding standard setting and patent pools.

He also regularly advises companies and individuals with respect to price fixing investigations. He is currently involved in investigations in the following industries: freight forwarding, aluminum fluoride, BBP, cathode ray tubes and liquid crystal displays.

Finally, Mr. Gerrits also worked on a number of EU merger control cases and EU Member State merger control filings. For example, he advised Thomson on its acquisition of a stake in ContentGuard; Mercury in the EU merger control review proceedings of HP’s acquisition of Mercury; and TDK in the sale of its recording media business (including branded tape, DVD, CD, and similar products) to Imation for $300 million in Imation shares and cash.

Mr. Gerrits has worked in both Brussels and Washington, D.C. He was educated in Belgium and the Netherlands, graduating cum laude from the law school at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1993. He also graduated cum laude with a Masters degree in EU and Dutch Competition Law from the University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands) in 1995. In 2004, Mr. Gerrits obtained a B.A. in Philosophy cum laude at the University of Leuven.

Mr. Gerrits speaks Dutch, English, and French fluently. He is a member of the Brussels bar.
