Brian Bates is a partner in the Financial Transactions Group and is currently resident in the firm’s London office.

Mr. Bates’ practice focuses on corporate finance and the representation of institutional issuers and lenders in the U.S. institutional financial marketplace. He represents clients in a range of financing transactions, including bank syndications, private debt and equity placements, various bank finance products, high yield offerings, and mezzanine and LBO financings. He also has a specialized practice representing non-U.S. entities that wish to make cross-border private placements of securities to U.S. financial institutions.

Mr. Bates is a member of the New York and Illinois bars. He is also a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Law Society of England and Wales. He received his B.A. cum laude from St. Ambrose College and his J.D. in 1987 from the University of Notre Dame Law School. He began practicing law at Chapman and Cutler in 1987 and was hired as a Partner in 1995 by Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLC to represent the firm’s corporate clients in connection with their financing transactions. He joined Morrison & Foerster in 2001.
