The lawyers in our European Communications practice have substantial experience of advising fixed, cable, mobile and satellite telecommunications operators and services providers; internet services providers; device manufacturers; providers and purchasers of telecommunications software, hardware and systems; financial institutions; government agencies and regulatory authorities; and industry associations in all matters including licensing and regulatory strategy, commercial contract negotiation, competition matters and mergers and acquisitions and financings.  Members of the team have been seconded to national regulatory authorities and operators to gain first hand industry experience.

Matters on which our lawyers have worked include:

  • Advising the Armenian Government in connection with liberalisation of the Armenian communications sector and preparation of new laws establishing an independent communications regulator and a new competition and regulatory regime for the country’s communications sector.
  • Advising Centrica plc on IP and commercial aspects relating to the acquisition of One.Tel plc.
  • Undertaking European and global regulatory due diligence in connection with a number of mergers and acquisitions, including the merger of Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless.
  • Representing Comsat International, a telecommunications company providing full service voice and data services primarily in Latin American Markets, in its acquisition by BT United States L.L.C. (a member of the British Telecom Group) through a reverse triangular merger.
  • Representing Finnish operators before the European Commission in connection with fixed-mobile interconnection issues.
  • Advising FLAG Telecom on UK and international regulatory issues and competition matters.
  • Advising Fujitsu on UK communications regulatory matters in connection with the overhaul of the UK's regulatory regime.
  • Advising GE on UK, German, French and Italian telecommunications regulatory compliance matters.
  • Advising Glowpoint, one of the world’s leading broadcast quality, IP-based, video communications service providers on UK telecommunications matters.
  • Advising Motorola on IP and commercial aspects relating to the acquisition of TTP Communications.
  • Advising NTT DoCoMo on mobile telecommunications regulatory matters in the UK, France and Germany.
  • Advising leading telecoms company Qwest on a broad range of telecom licensing and regulatory strategy matters throughout Europe.
  • Advising SIMAlliance on IP and licensing matters in connection with development and licensing of mobile interface standards. 
  • Representing the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in its negotiations with a large telecommunications service provider for a major procurement of telephony and other telecommunications services.
  • Advising Whereonearth a geolocation technology company on a strategic global arrangement with Hutchison Whampoa whereby Whereonearth technology was to be developed to underpin all location enabled functionality on "3", the then-unlaunched Hutchison third generation mobile phone network.
