Dr. Lowry is an associate in the Litigation Department of the Tokyo office of Morrison & Foerster LLP. Dr. Lowry focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, including patent and trade secret cases, and client counseling, including strategic creation and use of patent portfolios.

Dr. Lowry has experience with a variety of technologies, including optics, electronics, software, physics, materials, biotechnology, and finance. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Lowry practiced patent litigation and patent prosecution at a prominent firm in Washington, DC. Also, Dr. Lowry has over 15 years of experience performing technical research and has served on the faculty of the University of Maryland. He has authored over 25 technical publications and also authored a section in a handbook of patent law that was published in 2004.

Dr. Lowry received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University cum laude in 1985, his Ph.D. in optical sciences from The University of Arizona in 1993, and his J.D. degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2001.

Dr. Lowry is admitted to practice in Virginia and Washington, DC, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He speaks Japanese and has held a high-level security clearance.
