Professional Summary



Tsugumichi Watanabe represents lenders, arrangers and borrowers in a broad range of financing transactions.  He has experience in the projects, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, transportation, structured product, and corporate, trade and sovereign loan and restructuring areas. 

In addition to financings in the Asia region, Mr. Watanabe has represented clients on numerous transactions in Latin America, U.S., the Middle East and Russia. 

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Watanabe was a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.  He received his A.B., A.M. and J.D. degrees from Harvard University. 



Representative Matters
  • Representation of a creditor in a multi-tranche, multi-creditor financing and restructuring of an independent power project in Indonesia. 
  • Representation of a governmental financial institution and an institutional investor in an oil pipeline financing in Colombia. 
  • Representation of a Japanese oil company in its commercial contract negotiations with a number of Middle East governments. 
  • Representation of commercial bank creditors on several USEximbank-supported financings to Russian oil producers. 
  • Representation of a commercial bank syndicate providing credit to a U.S. holding company, based on the cash flow from its worldwide portfolio of power company subsidiaries.
