Shogo Asaji is an associate in the Tokyo office of Morrison & Foerster and a member of its Litigation Department. Mr. Asaji’s practice focuses primarily on the representation of Japanese and other clients in intellectual property matters, including patent litigation at the trial and appellate levels in the United States. His practice also includes preparing patent infringement, validity, and enforceability opinions, prosecuting patent applications, and advising on patent and trademark licensing matters.
Mr. Asaji has worked with electrical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnological arts. Examples of technologies he has worked with include transistors, semiconductors, storage devices, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, COX-2 inhibitors, controlled- and extended-release tablets and microcapsules, insulin injection devices, growth hormones, swine vaccines, digital projectors, display devices, and semiconductor manufacturing devices and processes.
Mr. Asaji received his B.S.M.E. degree in mechanical engineering , cum laude , and a B.A. degree in economics, cum laude , from Tufts University, his M.A. degree from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, his J.D. degree from American University, and his LL.M. degree in International and Comparative Law, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, Mr. Asaji served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Robert H. Hodges, Jr. at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC, and was a member of The Administrative Law Journal of American University .
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Asaji was associated with one of the major IP boutique firms in New York City and a Wall Street law firm. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Asaji worked as an executive for a medium-sized Japanese company. He has resided in Japan, the United States, Switzerland, and France and speaks Japanese, French, and English. Mr. Asaji has successfully passed the U.S. patent bar examination, and is admitted to practice in the State of New York and various U.S. federal courts.
