Dr. Gearing is an associate in the Litigation Department of the Tokyo Office of Morrison & Foerster LLP. Dr. Gearing has experience with a variety of technologies, including materials science, mechanics and dynamics of materials, cancer therapy, semiconductor and hard disk manufacturing technologies, and microprocessor technology. Dr. Gearing is a co-author of 13 scientific publications and two legal publications, and is a co-inventor on an issued U.S. patent pertaining to implantable medical devices.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Gearing practiced patent litigation at a prominent New York law firm. He received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park cum laude in 1996, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and his J.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, in 2005. Dr. Gearing is admitted to practice in New York.
