Satoru Matsuo has experience in a broad range of technology licensing, patent and trade secret litigation and other intellectual property matters as well as complex business litigation. Before joining Morrison & Foerster in March 1998, he served as General Counsel of Uniden Corporation from March 1993 to February 1998 and worked in the Legal and Intellectual Property Group of Fujitsu Limited from April 1980 to February 1993.
Mr. Matsuo has assisted in the firm’s representation of patent and trade secret litigation and technology licensing in a variety of industries, including semiconductor, display components, chemical materials and pharmaceutical products, which have brought favorable results to our clients. He is also involved in complex business litigation and arbitrations involving large Japanese companies in, among others, the pharmaceutical, computer, game software and non-metal materials industries. He has also handled compliance matters and internal investigations for a leading electric conglomerate.
Representative Matters
- The firm’s successful defense of Tokyo Ohka Kogyo (“TOK”) Co. in JSR Corp v. TOK Co. (N.D.Cal.), a patent infringement suit. Our client prevailed on motions for summary judgement of claim interpretation, limitation on damages period and invalidity of a patent. The case was dismissed and later settled on the worldwide basis.
- At Fujitsu, successfully handled a declaratory judgement action of Fujitsu against Texas Instrument’s “Kilby Patent” in the Tokyo District Court.
