MoFo represented Toshiba and MELCO before the European Commission to secure antitrust approval for a joint venture between
Toshiba Corp. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. The new 50-50 joint venture, which will combine their electric equipment manufacturing,
will be named Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp. and will be the world's third largest manufacturer of industrial
electric equipment, behind Germany's Siemens AG and Switzerland's ABB Ltd.
The deal was approved under the Commission's simplified antitrust procedure. This clears mergers or acquisitions after one
month if no objections are raised by third parties.
The MoFo team included Chris Norall, Rony Gerrits and Katharina Kraak in Brussels; Steve Smith, Aki Bayz and Jeff Jaeckel in Washington DC; and Stan Yukevich and Matthew Sikes in Tokyo.
