Joyita Basu is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Morrison & Foerster, where she is a member of the Financial Transactions Practice Group. She currently represents commercial lenders, investment banks, broker-dealers, investment advisors, and other entities in secondary market loan transactions in par and distressed trade programs.

Over the past three years, Ms. Basu has also represented some of the largest U.S. retailers and financial institutions on many payment card-related transactions, including the negotiation of private label, stored value, and co-branded credit card program documentation and acquiring bank/merchant contracts and card issuing contracts. Her practice also includes handling matters relating to: payment instruments, including regulatory and legislative issues; financial privacy issues under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and state privacy and data security laws; consumer lending issues under the Truth in Lending Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act and other issues.

Ms. Basu received her J.D. from the University of North Carolina, School of Law, with honors, in 2004, where she was the Managing Editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
