In its annual Patent Litigation Survey put out by IP Law & Business magazine, Morrison & Foerster jumped to the #4 spot based on number of cases the firm filed on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in 2005. Last year the firm was ranked #22. Additionally, the firm was ranked #4 based on number of cases filed on behalf of defendants, jumping from the #14 in 2005.

This is the fifth year IP Law & Business has conducted this survey. In reflecting back on the growth and changes that occurred during the past five years, the publication listed the seven law firms which had the most filings back in 2001. Morrison & Foerster was ranked # 3.

The magazine determines the list of top firms by examining patent suits filed in federal courts in 2005 that were still active as of February 1, 2006. International cases, International Trade Commission cases, and appellate cases were not considered for this survey.
