Michael Agoglia is a member and former Co-Chair of the firm's Financial Services Litigation Practice Group and former Managing Partner of the San Francisco office. His practice is concentrated in complex civil litigation with an emphasis on consumer class actions.
Throughout the two decades that he has been practicing law, Mr. Agoglia has defended a variety of financial services companies and other clients in a wide range of litigation, government enforcement, and ADR contexts. He has represented many clients as national coordinating counsel in large, multi-party, and multi-forum cases. In particular, he has served as national coordinating counsel for national banks, mortgage bankers, auto finance companies, insurers, and other financial services companies in connection with challenges to alleged referral schemes, unfair business practices, privacy breaches, regulatory violations, and pricing issues.
With the growing trend towards the filing of similar claims in waves of class actions around the country, Mr. Agoglia has developed effective strategies that present cutting-edge class certification and merits arguments, which he routinely develops in close collaboration with the firm's experts on a broad array of bank regulatory issues. Aside from dozens of cases in which Mr. Agoglia has won dispositive motions or defeated class certification, he has successfully tried numerous cases in both state and federal court and has also argued and won numerous appeals.
Mr. Agoglia is a fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.
