Digital Divide Data (DDD) is a true social enterprise - a nonprofit organization that recruits impoverished high school graduates in Cambodia and Laos and trains them to provide advanced information technology services to international clients while also supporting them in attending college. DDD equips its graduates with education and skills that propel them and their families out of poverty. MoFo assists DDD with employment matters, counsels the group on its intellectual property strategy, and is finalizing licensing and services agreements for DDD to use with its subsidiaries and customers.

Responding to Sexual Violence in Haiti

Long after the aftershocks of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti finally subsided, a new terror gained strength: an epidemic of rape victimizing women and girls living in that country's sprawling post-earthquake encampments. MoFo has engaged in several projects to address this epidemic. Our attorneys have won humanitarian parole for several victims of horrendous sexual violence, allowing them and their children temporary stays in the United States to receive appropriate medical and psychological care. We assisted in documenting the crisis for a petition to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights that has resulted in improved lighting and security in some camps, and better medical care and police response for victims. And we led a multi-firm project for MADRE, the international women's human rights organization, to support the reform of rape laws in Haiti. The project compiled in-depth research on rape laws, prosecutorial practices, and victim services in multiple domestic and international jurisdictions, to identify best practices that could serve as models for Haitian lawmakers.
