Daily Journal Names Arturo González and William Frentzen as Leading Commercial Litigators
San Francisco partners Arturo González and William Frentzen have been named Leading Commercial Litigators in 2024 by the Daily Journal. The list recognizes the achievements of the top litigators making an impact in California, as well as their advancements in the legal industry.
Arturo González, partner and chair of MoFo’s Commercial Litigation & Trial Practice Group, is a leader of the California Bar and one of the nation’s top trial lawyers. He may be the only lawyer in the country to obtain defense victories in multiple billion-dollar matters, as well as four jury verdicts in excess of $10 million, often on behalf of the nation’s most prominent institutions, including Uber, Apple, VMware, Bank of America, Kaiser Permanente, Bank of the West, Cypress Semiconductor, and Del Monte, among others.
Arturo also uses his superior trial advocacy skills for underserved communities and those without equal access to justice. He has taken on more than 100 pro bono cases throughout his career, obtaining record verdicts in civil rights cases, including the largest verdicts in California history. Arturo is likely the only partner at any large U.S. law firm to have tried 12 civil rights cases to verdict.
Arturo is a Fellow with the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and an associate with the American Board of Trial Advocates.
He was inducted into the California Lawyers Association’s Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame in 2021, and was honored in 2019 by the American Bar Association for his ongoing commitment to pro bono and public service. He has also earned a wealth of recognitions from high-profile publications including Chambers, The Legal 500, Daily Journal, and National Law Journal.
William Frentzen is a trial attorney and partner in MoFo’s Securities Litigation, Enforcement, and White Collar Defense group who is the former chief of the Corporate and Securities Fraud Unit for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California (NDCA). Over the course of his career, William has successfully tried over 40 federal criminal and civil jury trials around the country. While serving in government, he notably secured a conviction in the largest fraud case in NDCA’s history, and achieved several high-profile criminal resolutions, including the first ever criminal prosecution for violating the Lobbying Disclosure Act.
In private practice, William continues to successfully litigate complex and high-profile cases. He recently obtained a rare jury verdict in a Clean Water Act trial involving allegations of years of runoff into navigable waters, secured a complete defense victory through summary judgment for a leading transportation technology company against allegations of fraud and contractual interference, and successfully negotiated the return of more than $220 million in digital assets for a leading DeFi platform, completing one of the largest recoveries in DeFi history.
Since joining private practice, William has been recognized by leading industry and business publications, including Financial Times, which named him as the only “Commended Individual” in the Innovative Lawyers in Cyber Security & Data Protection category for their 2023 North America Innovative Lawyers report. William also received numerous awards for his exceptional work at DOJ, including the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award, the DOJ Director’s Award for Superior Performance by a Criminal AUSA, and the FBI Director's Award for Excellence. He was also recognized as a California Attorney of the Year by The Recorder following a five-month racketeering jury trial.
