Healthcare Antitrust Crackdown Evokes Techlash

Alexander Okuliar spoke to The Deal about the Department of Justice’s recent investigations into antitrust issues in healthcare, namely with UnitedHealth Group. Alex spoke to how the tactics mimic the whole-of-government approach the Biden administration has used against the tech sector to develop new theories to challenge vertical acquisitions of fledgling startups and break up monopolies.

“From the agency perspective, there are definitely parallels or similarities in how they’re thinking about these matters,” he said. “The current group of enforcers has talked a lot about platforms, and platforms as gatekeepers to industries.”
