The state of Tennessee has enacted laws and/or issued guidance relevant to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Companies subject to Tennessee law should be familiar with all relevant AI-related laws, regulations, and guidance, including those listed below.
Laws and Regulations
This law includes safety requirements for chatbot operators, design requirements for deployers of a covered product, and data privacy requirements for developers of a covered product.
This bill amends state law to create a criminal offense of coercive suicide, applying when an AI system advises or encourages someone to attempt or commit suicide within an imminent timeframe, after the person has expressed an intent to do so.
This amends state law to create a Class A felony offense of knowingly training AI to encourage the act of suicide or criminal homicide, or act in specific manners, including developing an emotional relationship with an individual or simulating a human being, including in appearance, voice, or other mannerisms.
The Act provides for liability in a civil action for a person who, knowingly and without the individual’s authorization:
- uses or infringes upon the use of an individual's name, photograph, voice (actual or simulated version), or likeness for purposes such as advertising, fundraising, or selling products or services, in any medium; or
distributes, transmits, or otherwise makes available an algorithm, software, tool, or other technology, service, or device for the primary purpose of producing a particular, identifiable individual's photograph, voice, or likeness.
This law creates a civil and criminal action for individuals who are the subject of an intimate digital depiction that is disclosed without the individual's consent under certain circumstances.
This law prohibits a person from developing or deploying an AI system that advertises or represents to the public that such system is or is able to act as a qualified mental health professional.
