Raising the Bar: Recent Recognition of Our Women Lawyers

  • Working Mother magazine named MoFo one of 2017’s Best Law Firms for Women. The annual list recognizes the top 50 U.S. law firms with reduced-hours programs and work-life balance initiatives that support the retention and advancement of women lawyers.
  • In 2018, Yale Law Women honored MoFo as one of the Top 10 Female Friendly Firms in the United States. The firm was also recognized for superior performance in two categories deemed particularly important in promoting female friendliness: “Leadership & Promotions: At Least 50% of Attorneys Promoted to Partner in 2017 Were Women” and “Executive Committee Consisted of at Least 35% Women.”
  • MoFo won the award for Law Firm of the Year for Promoting Flexible Working Environments and Innovative Programs for Mothers at the 2017 Chambers Women in Law Awards: USA.
  • Since 2013, MoFo has received a Gold Level Award from the Healthy Mothers Workplace Coalition for our dedication to creating a work environment that is friendly to working mothers.
  • For seven consecutive years, MoFo has received Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum in recognition of the integration of women into leadership roles.

  • In 2017, The Daily Journal named Palo Alto partner Sara Terheggen and San Francisco partners Susan Mac Cormac and Stefani Shanberg to its list of Top Women Lawyers in California. This is the fourth year that both Susan and Stefani have been named to the list.
  • The California Diversity Council recognized firmwide managing partner Tessa Schwartz as one of its 2017 Top 50 Women Lawyers.
  • Washington, D.C. partner Natalie Fleming Nolen was selected as a 2017 women’s executive leadership fellow with the Impact Center, a leadership development organization for high-impact individuals and institutions. Previous MoFo fellows include Obrea Poindexter, Ruti Smithline, Stacey Sprenkel, and Janet Xiao.
  • In 2016, the San Francisco Business Times profiled Tessa Schwartz as one of the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business.
  • San Francisco partner Alexis Amezcua was appointed MoFo's 2016 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) fellow. As part of her fellowship, Alexis will participate in a year-long leadership development program. MoFo has participated in the fellowship program since its founding in 2011. Tritia M. Murata, Purvi Patel, and Sylvia Rivera are among the firm’s previous LCLD fellows.
  • London associate Keily Blair received the 2015 Future Leaders Award at the Sixth Annual Women in the City Symposium and Awards Ceremony.
  • In 2015, The National Law Journal named Obrea Poindexter to its inaugural list of Outstanding Women Lawyers.
  • Savoy Magazine named Obrea Poindexter to its list of the Most Influential Black Lawyers for 2015. The list represents the “best of the best” among black lawyers who are partners at leading law firms or corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 corporations.
  • Profiles in Diversity Journal identified Anna Erickson White as one of its 2013 Women Worth Watching.


  • Global Competition Review named Roxann Henry one of its 150 Women in Antitrust for 2016.
  • The National Law Journal named Roxann Henry to its 2016 list of Antitrust and M&A Trailblazers.

Appellate + Supreme Court

  • In 2017, Law360 named Deanne Maynard an appellate MVP.
  • Miriam A. Vogel was inducted into the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers in 2014 in recognition of her skills as an appellate lawyer and her professional integrity. She joins MoFo colleague Deanne Maynard, who became a member of the academy in 2012.
  • Deanne Maynard received the Outstanding Contribution to Pro Bono Work Award at the 2014 Chambers USA Women in Law Awards in recognition of her efforts to ensure that the interests of diverse pro bono clients are heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.


  • In 2017, Law360 named New York partner Jennifer Marines a Bankruptcy Rising Star. This is the second year Jennifer has received this honor.
  • Turnarounds & Workouts listed Jennifer Marines as an Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer in 2016.


  • Susan Mac Cormac received the 2016 California Lawyer Attorney of the Year award from the Daily Journal.
  • In 2016, Susan Mac Cormac was honored with the American Bar Association Business Law Section’s National Public Service Award for her pro bono work with non-profits and enterprises that serve low-income individuals.
  • The Daily Journal named Susan Mac Cormac to its 2013 list of Top Women for her influence on the legal community, the nation, and society.

Employment + Labor

  • Karen Kubin was included on the Daily Journal’s list of the Top 75 Labor & Employment Lawyers from 2010 to 2012. She was also named to Law360’s MVP list for employment law.

Financial Service Regulation

  • MoFo was named the Best Regulatory Law Firm of the Year at the 2016 C5 Women in Compliance Awards. The awards, which were held in London, recognize and celebrate the successes and achievements of women compliance professionals from across the corporate spectrum.
  • Euromoney named Barbara Mendelson Best in Financial Regulation at the 2017 Euromoney Americas Women in Business Law Awards.
  • Barbara Mendelson was awarded a Lawyer of the Year designation by Best Lawyers in America in the financial services regulation law category in 2013.

Impact Investing

  • In 2015, the Financial Times named Susan Mac Cormac the Most Innovative Individual Lawyer in North America.

Intellectual Property

  • In 2017, The National Law Journal named San Francisco partner Diana Kruze an Intellectual Property Trailblazer.

  • Catherine Polizzi was named to The Daily Journal’s 2017 list of the California’s top intellectual property lawyers.
  • In 2013, the Silicon Valley Business Journal recognized Catherine Polizzi for her professional accomplishments, leadership, and achievements in patent counseling and prosecution, intellectual property, and life sciences.
  • In 2013, Euromoney Legal Media Group recognized Catherine Polizzi as the best lawyer in the life sciences category at the second annual Americas Women in Business Law Awards.


  • Carrie Cohen was named a 2016 Litigation Trailblazer by the National Law Journal.
  • San Francisco partner Diana Kruze made the list of the Daily Journal’s 2016 Top 40 Under 40 lawyers in California.
  • Global Investigations Review named Ruti Smithline to its inaugural list of 40 Under 40.
