Judge James Donato and Jacqueline Scott Corley are Patent Pilot Judges and magistrate judges Joseph C. Spero, Laurel Beeler, Sallie Kim, and Elizabeth D. Laporte are Patent Magistrate Judges. The courthouse is located near the Civic Center and other government buildings in San Francisco. Civil actions arising in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, or Sonoma are assigned to either the San Francisco Division or the Oakland Division, with the exception of certain cases (such as IP cases), which are assigned on a district-wide basis.

Magistrate judges Nathanael Cousins and Susan van Keulen are Patent Magistrate Judges. Civil actions arising in the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, or Monterey are assigned to the San Jose Division, with the exception of certain cases (such as IP cases), which are assigned on a district-wide basis.
