Abed Balbaky is an associate in Morrison Foerster’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group, where he represents clients in complex patent, trade secret, and copyright matters. He has experience across a broad range of technologies and industries, including microelectronics, semiconductors, wireless communications, consumer electronics, imaging systems, and medical devices. His practice spans all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal, as well as proceedings before the International Trade Commission and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Before joining Morrison Foerster, Abed practiced in the intellectual property litigation group at another leading international law firm, where he represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex intellectual property disputes. He also clerked for the Hon. Gerard E. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where he gained valuable experience in appellate advocacy and judicial decision-making.

Abed received his J.D. from Columbia University, where he was a James Kent Scholar, received the Ruth Bader Ginsberg Prize, and served as the Executive Articles Editor for the Columbia Science and Technology Law Review. Before entering law, Abed earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, where his research focused on plasma instabilities and experimental diagnostics. He has conducted research in a U.S. national laboratory and has authored peer-reviewed journal articles and presented at national conferences on topics related to plasma physics and nuclear fusion.
