Deon Fang is an associate in the firm’s London office and a member of the Litigation Group.
Deon advises clients on a wide range of complex dispute resolution matters across commercial litigation, international arbitration and regulatory investigations, with a focus on technology.
Before joining Morrison Foerster, Deon practiced in the litigation and dispute resolution team at a magic circle firm in London. He acted for Epic Games on the tech antitrust case, Epic Games v Google, alleging abuse of a dominant position in the Android app distribution and in-app payment processing markets, as well as for a firm forming part of the UK payments infrastructure on a regulatory investigation into cybersecurity issues. He also worked on LGBTQ+ strategic litigation including the UK Supreme Court case, R (Elan-Cane) v Secretary of State for the Home Department, which established that Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights includes a fundamental right to respect for non-binary identities. Deon is a member of the LGBTQ+ network and advocate, and he has been recognised as Diversity Champion of the Year at the British Diversity Awards 2024, Future Leader of the Year at the British LGBT Awards 2023, and on the global Top 100 LGBTQ+ Future Leaders by Involve Outstanding Role Models.
Deon graduated with First Class Honours in Law from the University of Oxford. He was awarded the Crystal Prize, the Farthing Prize, the Monk Prize and the Domus Scholarship. He later read for the BCL at Oxford, where he received a Distinction and was awarded the Oxford Law Faculty Prize in Regulation. He focused on cyber regulation, with a research interest in private law liability for autonomous AI actors. Deon has taught tutorials and revision classes to Law undergraduates at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, and worked as a research assistant for the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law on The Foundations and Future of Public Law.
Deon is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and is also a solicitor advocate with Higher Rights of Audience (Civil) in the courts of England and Wales. Deon has secondment experience working in São Paulo, Brazil. Having grown up in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai, he is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese.
