Gabie Muwanga is a scientific analyst at Morrison Foerster, where she focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in the field of biomedical sciences. She leverages her deep scientific training to support clients in protecting innovations related to drug delivery systems, neurobiology, molecular and cell biology, immunology, and medical technologies.

Before joining Morrison Foerster, Gabie conducted doctoral research at Stanford University School of Medicine, investigating neuroimmune mechanisms of pain and targeted drug delivery strategies for pain treatment. Her work centered on in vivo molecular imaging of myeloid cells in mouse models of orthopedic and neuropathic pain to understand their role in pain pathology and on the use of ultrasound-responsive lipid nanoparticles to deliver anesthetic drugs directly to affected tissues after injury to enhance pain relief while reducing systemic side effects. Gabie also completed a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an NIH-funded PREP Scholar, where she explored how the protein Lin28a modulates pain sensitivity and neuronal structure following nerve injury. She brings hands-on experience with a range of techniques, including in vivo mouse models, qPCR, in vivo molecular imaging, immunohistochemistry, ultrasound-mediated neuromodulation and fluorescence imaging.

Gabie earned her B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences from Makerere University in Uganda and her Ph.D. in Neurosciences from Stanford University. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at international scientific conferences. Gabie’s honors and awards include the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship and the Stanford Bio-X interdisciplinary fellowship.
