Jeremy is the Global Co-Chair of our M&A practice. As a corporate partner of our Tokyo office, Jeremy focuses his practice on cross-border mergers, acquisitions, disposals, spin-outs, and joint ventures. His practice covers alliances between multinationals to greenfield corporate and venture investments.

Represented Japan’s leading manufacturer of industrial boilers on it’s acquisition of a U.S. based producer of boilers, burners, and industrial boilers (2024). 

Asia’s largest hyperscale data center

Represented an international data center developer as majority partner in a Japanese joint venture to establish Asia’s largest data center (2020).

Japan’s leading e-commerce and online retail platform

Represented Japan’s leading e-commerce and online retail platform in multiple transactions, including the simultaneous acquisition of telecom service providers in India and the United States (2020), a joint venture project (2020), an advertising joint venture (2019), a UAV traffic control joint venture (2018), and 10+ venture capital investments (2014-2018).

A global pharmaceutical company

Represented a global pharmaceutical company (one of the top 5 by size globally) in multiple transactions, including several separate licensing and manufacturing collaborations (2017-2020), a share and asset sale/disposal (2018), and a joint venture formation (2012).

Europe’s largest natural cosmetics brand

Represented Europe’s largest natural cosmetics brand in the acquisition of an own-brand Japan business (involving 100+ individual retail locations in Japan) (2020).

A listed Japanese beverage producer

Represented a listed Japanese beverage producer (one of Japan’s biggest brewers (listed)) in 10+ transactions, including the successful auction sale of a major subsidiary, the acquisition and buyout of a Japan-based joint venture, the acquisition of a U.S. company, collaborations with U.S. soft drink manufacturers and U.S. beer manufacturers, and others (2012-2020).

Represented a European bank (second largest in the UK) in the sale and unwinding of its Japanese joint venture (being Japan’s largest private wealth business) (2017). Acted for the same bank on the establishment of that same joint venture (2010).

A listed Japanese printing company

Represented a listed Japanese printing company in its successful auction acquisition of a pan-European manufacturer (2016). Acted for the same client in its subsequent and unrelated acquisition of a U.S. multinational (2017). Both deals were competitive auctions by private equity sellers (2016-2017).

A U.S. home shopping retail platform

Represented a U.S. home shopping retail platform in three matters in Japan, including the reorganization of its joint venture business (EBITDA of US$1 billion+).
