Juliana Ilmain focuses her work on patent drafting and prosecution in microbiology and biochemistry.
Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, Juliana earned her Ph.D. in microbiology from New York University School of Medicine. She combined a molecular and structural biology approach to study how a bacterial pore-forming toxin targets human immune cells. She also utilized biolayer interferometry and cryo-electron microscopy techniques to investigate the binding epitopes of toxin-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies. Juliana received her B.S. in biology, with highest distinction, from Purdue University. She conducted her honors thesis in a disease ecology laboratory, studying how resource availability and infectious disease impact the success of invasive species in freshwater communities. Over two summers, Juliana interned at a multinational healthcare company in the areas of clinical operations and infectious disease research.
