Maggie Elpers is a technical analyst in Morrison Foerster’s Patent Prosecution Group.

Maggie advises clients on their patent prosecution and intellectual property matters involving biotechnology, life sciences, medical devices, and biomedical engineering. Drawing on her experience in scientific research, technology commercialization, and intellectual property due diligence, Maggie supports the development and management of patent portfolios for innovative companies, research institutions, and emerging technology organizations.

Maggie has experience evaluating complex technologies across a broad range of scientific disciplines, including immunology, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, mechanobiology, and therapeutic development. She assists with patentability assessments, prior art analyses, intellectual property due diligence, technology evaluations, and patent portfolio strategy. Her background also includes supporting technology licensing and commercialization initiatives for university-developed innovations, as well as conducting scientific and commercial diligence on early-stage companies and emerging technologies for venture investment opportunities.

Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, Maggie conducted interdisciplinary biomedical research focused on mechanobiology, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, and skeletal muscle disorders. Her research involved transcriptomic analysis, molecular and cellular biology techniques, biomaterials, and the development of novel experimental platforms to investigate disease mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities. She collaborated closely with scientists, engineers, and clinicians on translational research projects and mentored undergraduate and graduate researchers.

She earned her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Cornell University and her B.S. in bioengineering, magna cum laude, from Clemson University.
