Marley Macarewich is an associate in the Patent Strategy + Prosecution Group of Morrison Foerster’s San Francisco office.
Marley represents clients across diverse technology sectors, with a particular focus on chemical engineering innovations, food and agriculture, clean technology, and medical devices. Her practice focuses on patent drafting, IP strategy, IP due diligence, and patent prosecution before the USPTO. In addition to patent prosecution, Marley also has experience in adversarial proceedings before the USPTO including inter partes review proceedings.
Before joining Morrison Foerster as an associate, Marley participated in Morrison Foerster’s Two-Summer Patent Program where she served as a summer associate and law clerk.
During law school, Marley won the USPTO regional National Patent Application Drafting Competition. Additionally, she was the managing editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal.
Prior to law school, Marley worked in an environmental engineering lab and a biochemical engineering lab, and she participated in an engineering design fellowship where she designed, built, and tested new musical instruments. She also researched the spread of COVID-19 on trains through computer modeling of airflows inside railcars, and collaborated with local transit authorities to help stop the spread of COVID-19 on trains.
Marley earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law where she earned the Technology Law Certificate and Business Law Certificate. She received her B.S., cum laude, in Chemical Engineering (as well as a Spanish Certificate) from Yale University where she was a member of the Sigma Delta Pi Spanish honor society and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society.
Marley is admitted to practice in California and is registered to practice before the USPTO.
