Nick Kennedy is an associate in Morrison Foerster’s National Security Group, where he advises clients on U.S. national security and regulatory matters, including the scope and implications of laws and regulations administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), as well as matters arising under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA). He counsels clients on complex and sensitive issues involving advisory work, due diligence, internal investigations, compliance, and enforcement.
His clients include major banks and financial institutions, investment firms, consulting firms, manufacturers, and technology companies in the United States and internationally. He also advises a range of non-governmental organizations on a pro bono basis regarding regulatory compliance matters.
Nick received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center where he was a student advocate in the Appellate Litigation Clinic, Exceptional Pro Bono Pledge Honoree, and administrative editor of the Journal of National Security Law & Policy. During law school, he interned at the U.S. Department of Justice in the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section as well as in the chambers of the Honorable Evan J. Wallach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Honorable Timothy J. Kelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. After law school, Nick clerked for the Honorable Gregory K. Frizzell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
Before law school, Nick served as an active duty intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force and he currently serves in a reserve capacity. He earned a B.S. in management from the United States Air Force Academy.
