Rebecca Setrakian is a member of Morrison Foerster’s Appellate and Supreme Court practice with a particular focus on patent appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Rebecca helps clients navigate high-stakes appeals involving complex technical issues. Drawing on her trial experience and deep knowledge of patent law, Rebecca distills trial records into strong arguments in post-trial briefing and on appeal. She leverages her biomedical engineering background to present technical issues clearly and strategically, across a range of disciplines.
Rebecca’s appeal experience reflects the breadth of tribunals reviewed by the Federal Circuit, from district courts to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board to the International Trade Commission. In briefing Board appeals, Rebecca draws on her own experience practicing before the Board. Rebecca led briefing for a team that recently won vacatur and remand of a Board decision while successfully defending three related rulings.
Before joining Morrison Foerster, Rebecca clerked for Judge Todd M. Hughes of the Federal Circuit.
Rebecca earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was co‑editor-in-chief of the Stanford Technology Law Review. As a member of the Juelsgaard IP and Innovation Clinic, she filed an amicus brief with the Federal Circuit and submitted public comments on the intersection of artificial intelligence and copyright law.
Concurrently with her J.D., Rebecca earned a master’s degree in bioengineering from Stanford. She received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, with a research emphasis on medical imaging and image processing.
