Dr. Sam Redford focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, with an emphasis on immunology and molecular biology.
Previously, Sam was a scientific analyst intern at MoFo, where he aided in drafting and preparing patent applications and analyzing patentability and freedom to operate.
He received his B.S. in biochemistry and microbiology from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where he was an undergraduate research assistant and junior scientist. From his studies, he gained experience in developing a qPCR diagnosis assay to detect a fungal tree pathogen, and performed extractions, PCR, and sequence analysis for phylogenetic studies. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, where he worked in Dr. Janelle Ayres’ lab at the Salk Institute examining how lipid metabolism and the immune system influence one another during an infection. During his Ph.D., Sam examined a novel role for CD4 T cells in eliciting an anorexic response leading to adipose tissue wasting during a Trypanosoma brucei infection.
