Tim Bartels is a senior associate at Morrison Foerster’s German office in Berlin and a certified compliance officer. He advises both foreign and domestic clients on all areas of corporate compliance and internal investigations.

Tim’s practice focuses on conducting internal investigations in specific cases of suspicion in Germany and abroad, also in the context of investigations by the public prosecutor’s office, as well as on conducting suspicion-independent compliance reviews, and enforcing claims for damages in the event of noncompliance with laws or regulations. In this context, Tim also advises clients on D&O insurance issues.

Besides, Tim advises on Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) related topics. For example, this includes advisory work on Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Act. He also advises on ESG requirements deriving from the law of the European Union (SFDR, CSRD, NFRD, and draft CSDDD).

Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, Tim worked in the Berlin judiciary. There, he served both as a judge in civil proceedings and as a prosecutor in white-collar criminal proceedings. In this capacity, he also taught criminal law and criminal procedure law to trainee lawyers.
