William C. (“Bill”) McCaughey is of counsel in Morrison Foerster’s Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s global Antitrust Law Group.

Bill represents clients in government investigations, complex antitrust litigation, merger review matters, and white-collar defense. He advises companies across a broad range of industries on civil and criminal antitrust issues, including class action litigation, investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission, and Hart-Scott-Rodino Act compliance. Clients rely on his practical judgment and strategic counsel to navigate high-stakes matters where legal, business, and reputational considerations intersect.

Bill has extensive experience representing companies and executives in matters involving allegations of price-fixing, monopolization, no-poach agreements, and other competition-related conduct. He has led Second Request and Civil Investigative Demand responses, defended clients in Sherman Act class actions, represented companies before the DOJ, FTC, and SEC, and advised clients on antitrust compliance, internal investigations, and merger review strategy. Drawing on significant experience with both government enforcement and complex litigation, Bill develops practical, business-oriented solutions while advocating effectively before regulators and in court. He regularly guides clients through every stage of litigation, from case strategy and discovery to dispositive motions, expert proceedings, mediation, and trial preparation, helping them manage risk and achieve favorable outcomes in their most consequential matters.

Before entering private practice, Bill interned with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Fraud Section and Organized Crime and Gang Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division.

Bill earned his J.D. with honors from the George Washington University Law School, where he was a member of The George Washington International Law Review. He received his B.A. in political science/pre-law, with a minor in philosophy and law, from Michigan State University.
