Alexandra Eve Steinberg Laks is an associate in the Litigation Department in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on false advertising, unfair competition, False Claims Act, and privacy litigation, including the defense of consumer class actions, agency enforcement proceedings, qui tam actions, and complex commercial litigation.
Ms. Laks represents a range of clients in the food, cosmetic, retail, technology, financial, and health care industries. She is an editor and frequent contributor to the firm’s Class Dismissed blog (classdismissed.mofo.com), which provides insights, recommendations, and timely reports on the latest defense news, developments, and trends in the most current class action lawsuits and product liability issues that affect consumer-facing companies.
Ms. Laks is also active in the firm’s pro bono practice. She has worked on impact litigation related to protecting the safety of abortion-care providers as well as investigations into the impact of alternative disciplinary procedures on at-risk youth. She has also represented students in expulsion proceedings as well as tenants in unlawful detainer proceedings. Ms. Laks is a recipient of the State Bar of California’s Wiley W. Manuel Award for public service, and was recently selected as an Outstanding Volunteer by the San Francisco Bar Association’s Justice and Diversity Center. She is a member of One Justice’s Advisory Board.
Ms. Laks received her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where she served as discourse editor and a diversity committee member for the UCLA Law Review, as well as co-founder and co-chair of the Education Law Society and co-founder of the UCLA Education Rights Clinic. During law school, Ms. Laks served as an intern for the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, a legal extern for the ACLU of Southern California and a judicial extern to the Honorable Stephen Reinhardt in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She was a summer associate at Morrison & Foerster. Ms. Laks received her B.A. in Government from Cornell University.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Laks worked as a teacher through Teach for America and helped found ACE Charter School. She currently serves on the school’s Growth Committee. Ms. Laks speaks Spanish.
