Alja provides a wide range of services. She has advised on international data transfers, cloud computing, direct marketing, social media, customer profiling, Big Data, AI, data anonymization and pseudonymization, e-discovery, the use of email and the Internet in the workplace, BYOD/BYOC, the use of dashboard cameras and other surveillance tools in the employment context, the use of medical data of sick employees by employers and insurance companies, employee monitoring and whistleblowing procedures, and she has assisted clients with internal investigations and their dealings with regulators. She has drafted privacy policies, terms and conditions for online services, guidelines and notices, data transfer and processing agreements and has extensive experience in assisting clients with various contract drafting and negotiations.
Her clients include Dutch, European, and U.S.-based corporations and organizations from a broad range of industry sectors, including technology, telecommunications, advertising, retail, consumer products, entertainment, pharmaceutical, and financial services. She assists clients on a country-specific, pan-European, or global level. For this purpose Alja is regularly in contact with the firm’s trusted local counsel all over the world, which enables her clients to receive high-quality multi-jurisdictional advice. Alja also regularly provides internal privacy and data protection training to her clients, and speaks frequently at various international events.
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Alja was an associate in the Information, Communication & Technology team at a renowned Dutch law firm in Amsterdam. She also worked as a legal associate at the EU SOLVIT centre in The Hague, advising businesses on difficulties caused by failure to implement or correctly interpret EU law by public authorities.
Alja is a Dutch qualified lawyer and a member of the Amsterdam and Brussels Bars. She speaks fluent English and Dutch, is a native speaker of Slovenian, and has a working knowledge of Croatian, Serbian, and German languages.Show More
