Amanda Casale’s practice focuses on the prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in the areas of molecular biology, immunology, chemistry, neuroscience, and machine learning. She also has experience in conducting IP due diligence, including freedom to operate and patentability analyses.

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Dr. Casale was a patent agent for an international law firm, where she was responsible for all aspects of patent application preparation and prosecution in multiple life sciences disciplines, including technology related to immunotherapeutics, genetic testing, gene editing, protein engineering, and small molecules.

Dr. Casale received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Yale University, New Haven, where she performed interdisciplinary neuroscience research to understand the cellular basis of cognition. Key accomplishments of her research include pioneering the novel use of voltage-sensitive dye imaging to understand inhibitory interneuron axon and dendrite physiology, applying RNAi methods to determine the role of specific opioid receptors in morphine addiction and withdrawal, and building DNA constructs for targeted expression of ligand- or light-activated channels in subpopulations of cortical interneurons.

During her postdoctoral research at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, San Diego, she developed and employed electrophysiological, optical, pharmacological, and analytical methods to investigate the neural basis of attention.

Dr. Casale received her B.S. in molecular and cellular biology and B.A. in philosophy, cum laude, from the University of Arizona, Tucson. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
