Andreas Grünwald is a partner at Morrison & Foerster’s German office in Berlin. His practice focuses on antitrust and regulatory matters, with a particular emphasis on the telecommunications, media and technology (TMT) sector.
Mr. Grünwald heads Morrison & Foerster’s German antitrust law practice. He represents clients in merger control proceedings and advises on other regulatory aspects of TMT transactions (for example, permit requirements under media and telecommunications law). He also counsels his clients on a wide range of operational issues (e.g., with respect to market entry, dominant market positions, price regulation, network access, vertical agreements, and antitrust compliance). His practice also includes representation before antitrust and other regulatory authorities as well as in court proceedings, specifically with regard to cartel damage claims.
Since 2013, the JUVE Handbook features Andreas Grünwald as a “Leading Lawyer” in media competition law. In Chambers Europe 2015 and 2016, he was recommended for the area of TMT/Media; in Legal 500 Germany 2016, for Antitrust Law, Telecommunications/Regulation, and Media/Entertainment.
Andreas Grünwald lectures on media and antitrust law at the University of Münster; he served, among other things, as expert consultant to the Council of Europe and the European Commission; and is founding editor of the International Journal of Communications Law and Policy (IJCLP). He studied law in Würzburg and Münster (Dr. iur.); was a research fellow (1996-2000) with Professor Dr. Bernd Holznagel at the Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law (ITM) in Münster; a visiting scholar at the Communications Media Center of New York Law School (1998); and an international fellow of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School (1999).
