Dr. Ashley Berman is a member of the Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses on patent prosecution and portfolio management for clients in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Berman was a drug discovery chemist at Novartis, where he worked with an interdisciplinary team of scientists designing and synthesizing small molecules as novel therapeutics for human disease. Dr. Berman’s experience also includes his role as a synthetic organic chemist at TCI America, where he led a team manufacturing fine chemicals and reagents for research and development.
Dr. Berman earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His doctoral research focused on the development of catalytic electrophilic amination reactions. Dr. Berman was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellow, researching catalytic direct arylation of heterocycles at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.S. summa cum laude in chemistry from Bridgewater College, where he studied the synthesis of aryl-ethynyl end-capped polyimide oligomers and model compounds.
