Babak Nikravesh is a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s Palo Alto and San Francisco offices, and a member of the firm’s Tax Department.

Babak represents institutional investors and managers in connection with their cross-border investment strategies and operations, with a particular focus on complex tax and regulatory issues. He has two decades of experience advising sovereign wealth funds, public sector pension funds, social security funds, and other global organizations on their investment and advisory needs. He has handled hundreds of investment transactions across diverse asset classes, including funds (both primaries and secondaries), co-investments, and direct investments in venture capital, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and debt. He also advises the sponsors and managers of a variety of investment funds on formation, investment, and operational issues.

Babak is a recognized thought leader in the sovereign investment space. He authors the leading treatise on the US taxation of government-linked investors, edits and publishes Sovereign Investor Insights newsletter, a publication for investor clientele, and hosts the annual Sovereign Investor Conference for institutional investors. His works have also been cited in numerous publications, including the Oxford Guide to Treaties.

Babak earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. He earned an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as an M.A. from Stanford University.
