Known for his ability to bring creative solutions to complex issues in large-scale commercial transactions, Chris Ford represents companies in their financial services, payments, technology and outsourcing transactions. He provides strategic advice to: customers in their information technology and business process outsourcing transactions; merchants in their merchant acquiring, co-brand and private label card transactions; and financial institutions and other credit facilities in their card processing and network-related deals. He is chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Global Sourcing Group and a partner in the Technology Transactions Group.
As a key member of Morrison & Foerster’s financial transactions team, Mr. Ford has represented: one of the world’s largest financial institutions in its global retail, commercial, and small business credit card processing agreement with Total Systems Services (TSYS); a global finance company in the issuance of a credit card in the U.S., and all ancillary arrangements associated with that, including a processing and managed services agreement with First Data Corporation; one of the largest merchant acquiring companies in its strategic partnering and processing arrangement with American Express; global bank in its debit card processing and ATM Network management deal with STAR Networks; and one of the largest grocery retailers in its merchant acquiring and payment processing relationship with First Data Merchant Services.
Mr. Ford is in a select group of top-tier outsourcing lawyers. With more than 20 years of experience to draw upon, he has represented such clients as The State of Georgia in its landmark $1.1 billion IT infrastructure and Network Management outsourcing transactions with IBM and AT&T, respectively; Ingersoll-Rand in its IT infrastructure transaction with Computer Sciences Corporation;; McKesson Corporation in its global finance and accounting outsourcing arrangement with Genpact; and Avon, in several of its landmark sourcing transactions, including a global information technology deal and the outsourcing of its Canadian warehousing and logistics operation to an affiliate of Fedex.
In addition, with the confluence of technology and financial services products (a/k/a Fintech), Mr. Ford understands the commercial issues that face these companies, and can assist them with integrating new technologies into their business environments.
