Claire Gunner is an associate in the Litigation Department of the New York office of Morrison & Foerster.
Ms. Gunner’s practice includes representing companies and industry participants in cross-border and SEC investigations, including those involving whistleblower claims and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Her experience includes representing a former compliance officer in an SEC investigation of a Hong Kong branch of a major investment bank, and an internal investigation into whistleblower allegations of possible FCPA violations and conflict of interest risk exposure in the Peru branch of an international technology company.
Her practice also focuses on general commercial litigation matters, including a license and manufacturing agreement dispute in Delaware state court and a consumer invasion of privacy putative class action case. Ms. Gunner also maintains an active pro bono practice, assisting students with disabilities against a school district in Westchester County and the New York State Department of Education.
Ms. Gunner received her B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University in 2015, with a concentration in international human rights and development. She served as English executive editor for the McGill Law Journal/Revue de droit de McGill. She was the recipient of the McGill University Lindsey Anne Cameron Award in 2013 and the Leon Levinson Award in 2011, and won the Canadian American Bar Association Law Student Essay Competition in 2012. While in law school, Ms. Gunner also completed an internship at the Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos in San José, Costa Rica, where she drafted part of a Spanish-language advisory opinion on the rights of the child in the context of immigration enforcement under relevant OAS conventions.
She worked for the McGill Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism and was a volunteer advisor for Montreal community organization Project Genesis, where she provided legal information to service users. She clerked for the Hon. Debra Freeman, U.S. Magistrate Judge, S.D.N.Y. from April 2017 – April 2018.
