Dr. David Kempe focuses on prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications related to the life sciences. His practice is centered on small molecules and formulations in the pharmaceutical industry.
David received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas A&M University, advised by Kim Dunbar, in the area of molecular magnetism. His research contributed to knowledge on the synthesis and characterization of heavy transition metal single-molecule magnets.
David earned his B.S. summa cum laude in chemistry from Abilene Christian University. His undergraduate research in the lab of Greg Powell involved microwave-assisted synthesis of triosmium carbonyl complexes, including both optimization of known reactions and discovery of new compounds.
In addition to patent prosecution and patent drafting, David’s work at the firm includes providing support on due diligence projects, including both freedom-to-operate analyses and intellectual property landscape assessments. He has worked with clients of various sizes ranging from multinational pharmaceutical corporations to Bay Area startup companies.
