David Zins is an experienced advisor to employers and regularly litigates employment disputes in various federal and state courts and agencies. He is also a seasoned human resources professional.

David specializes in advising and defending employers in wage-and-hour matters arising under California and federal law, with a focus on defeating class actions and PAGA representative actions filed against California employers. He also has significant experience litigating the complexities of collective actions brought under the federal FLSA. In addition to his wage-and-hour work, David maintains a counseling practice encompassing all areas of employment law. He also defends employers facing a broad array of employment-related claims, from allegations of whistleblower retaliation to interference with prospective economic advantage to discrimination based on race, sex, and other characteristics. 

David’s dedication to his clients has resulted in his selection by Super Lawyers as a “Los Angeles Rising Star” in 2018-2019. 

David is committed to the firm’s pro bono program. He frequently advises non-profit organizations with respect to a variety of employment-related issues. He also supports LGBT advocacy work in a number of ways.  In recognition of his pro bono service, David received the California Lawyers Association’s Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for 2018-2019.

David graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was honored with the Dean’s Scholar Prizes in Labor Law, Employment Law, and Immigration and Refugee Advocacy. He was active in the Harvard Mediation Program and completed an internship for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Boston. He also successfully represented a gay Brazilian client seeking asylum in the United States.

Before law school, David worked for a number of years as a human resources professional in private industry. In addition to managing all aspects of HR, David was responsible for ensuring compliance with the full range of employment laws.

David is a certified mediator in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
